Students seeking to apply to PEER must meet the following criterion for eligibility:
Have at least a baccalaureate degree in biological, physical or computational sciences
Students must have been accepted into a doctoral program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Applicants must be a United States Citizen or permanent resident
Students must be defined as underrepresented by the National Institutes of Health (NIH):
- African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos/Chicanos, Native Americans, Alaskan Natives & Pacific Islanders
- Persons with disabilities
- Persons from an economically disadvantaged background
Additional UR groups as defined by National Science Foundation (NSF) guidelines:
- Women based on specific disciplines
Requirements for admission to PEER include:
- Evidence of Satisfactory performance in coursework required by the PhD-granting program
- A satisfactory score on the GRE for the verbal, quantitative & analytical sections
- A GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
